Hearts of Compassion - Mercy Ministry
“Hearts of Compassion” is a ministry of reaching out to those families who have desperate needs, there being no source of income or very little. We visit the families and deliver food and clothing and offer practical help where we can, as well as sharing the Gospel and praying for them.
Our desire is to minister to the needs of the whole person - spirit, soul, mind and body - and to give people, who have no hope, a sure hope in Jesus Christ. This ministry was launched in 2002, the vision being to reach out to those families in the KwaZulu Natal Midlands, particularly the rural areas, who have desperate needs, there being no source of income or very little.
At present, we are distributing food parcels to 850 families in the outlying areas (Ntambamhlope and Loskop), as well as Colenso and a few schools where the children come from very poor homes. Hearts of Compassion teams travel out every Thursday and, at each venue where the people gather, we spend time with them in praise and worship to the Lord, sharing His Word, praying for their needs and then giving each family a food parcel. Precious souls come, many walking long distances, the young, the old, the infirm and some even on crutches. Our mission is, simultaneously, to bring them to salvation in Jesus Christ, teach them the Word of God and then give them food, blankets, clothing and other practical help. We know that God is interested in the whole person - spirit, soul, mind and body - and it is our desire to minister into these areas and, where people seem to have no hope, to give them a sure hope in Jesus.
Midlands Christian Centre's vision is also to plant churches in all these outlying areas. We also endeavour to visit all the homes, so that we can assess the needs and minister to the individual families. Many families consist of orphan children trying to survive on their own.
